National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA)

NCQA is an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to assessing and reporting on the quality of managed care plans, managed behavioral healthcare organizations, preferred provider organizations, new health plans, physician organizations, credentials verification organizations, disease management programs and other health-related programs.

Many large employers will not do business with a healthcare company without NCQA’s stamp of approval.

The Joint Commission

The Joint Commission evaluates and accredits more than 16,000 healthcare organizations and programs in the United States. An independent, not-for-profit organization, The Joint Commission is the nation’s predominant standards-setting and accrediting body in healthcare. Joint Commission accreditation is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance standards. To earn and maintain The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™, an organization must undergo an on-site survey by a Joint Commission survey team at least every three years. (Laboratories must be surveyed every two years.)

URAC is an independent, non-profit healthcare accrediting organization dedicated to promoting healthcare quality through accreditation, certification and commendation.
